Generally considered as the cradle of Portugal and the heart of Vinhos Verdes, the 2012logo_guimaraes European Capital of Culture will host the 19th Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

On tour since 2006, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has travelled from Lisbon to Maastricht, Bordeaux, Valencia, Palermo and Luxembourg. Next year, Guimarães will be its next stop.

The event is a unique opportunity to promote both the host city and the Portuguese wine industry at large.

Founded in 1994, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has since then achieved the status of a world wine tasting championship. Over 7,300 wines and spirits competing from around the globe are tasted by a trade-only judging panel that gathers together foremost international experts. It represents almost 40 nationalities and this diversity contributes to the uniqueness of the event.

This year the Concours took place in Luxembourg. With 650 entries, Portugal ranked fourth among participating countries, a clear indication of the vitality of the Portuguese wine industry.

Stay tuned for publication of the results of the 2011 Concours scheduled for Monday May 16 at 6 pm Brussels time on www.concoursmondial.com.
