Reliability – increasingly stringent checks

PDF Print
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a trailblazer when it comes to implementing triple-level checks:

  • Sample checksvue ens cmb2009

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is the first international competition to introduce a post-event check on award-winning wines to ensure the legitimacy of its results. After the competition, a broad selection of award-winning samples is analysed by an authorised laboratory and tasted by a team of enologists to compare them with the wines available commercially.

  • Organisation checks

The overall organisation of the Concours Mondial and all of the wines entered are inspected annually by officials from the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy.

  • Judge assessment
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has developed an assessment procedure for judges aimed at defining the accuracy, consistency and repeatability of their evaluations. This tool was designed in conjunction with a team of researchers from the Statistics Institute at the Catholic University in Louvain. Mathematical simulations have also been carried out on the tasting notes of over 20,000 wines. These studies provide irrefutable confirmation of a consensus on the quality of the wines and thereby confirm the reliability of the competition and its results.
