On September 15 the South African Embassy in Brussels opened its doors for an event dedicated to the 91 South African wines awarded at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2016. Over 70 importers, restaurant owners, sommeliers, journalists and diplomats had the chance to taste and discover some of South Africa’s best wines. Representatives of the following eight wineries used the opportunity to present their products to the professional audience:

This year’s competition crowned 27 of the South African wine producers.

In a brief presentation about the current trends in South African wine production and exports, the Trade Attache at the Embassy, Sudhir Sooklal, emphasized the strength of the South African wine industry and the excellence of its products, which have seen export numbers double over the past decade. The Director of Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Thomas Costenoble, also pointed out the successful rate of 47% of South African samples, which received a medal from the 23r edition of the competition.

The Head of the South African Mission in Brussels, Ambassador Baso Sangqu, expressed his appreciation and support for the promotion of South African wines through the renowned Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
